Perth, Australia 2025

Eleven of our most adventurous students traveled to Perth, Australia on our annual English language training trip from August 17th to August 27th. While on a homestay program, students attended Canning College, a public high school with a diverse student body from all parts of the world. Canning College embraces an international atmosphere and university-style approach to teaching and learning. Domestic and international students are encouraged to engage in shared learning experiences and cultural exchange.
Our students enjoyed a variety of lessons from ESL classes and going to regular classes like chemistry, mathematics and English with their Canning College counterparts (grades 10~12). On top of that, Yamamura Kokusai students attended several afternoon classes during the week specifically designed for our students. Classes included lessons that touched on science such as making ice cream with liquid nitrogen and comparing density between various liquids in a physics experiment. Moreover, they tried their hands at a fun quiz over three rounds that tested their overall knowledge of Australia and Japan. Also, Yamamura Kokusai students dabbled in making traditional sweets such as chocolate crackles and fairy bread.
We would like to offer special thanks to the students, the faculty of Canning College and all the homestay families for their kindness. Our eleven students tested their mental and physical mettle in Australia this summer. For some, the experience was easier than others, but all will carry with them the achievement of unravelling the unknown, expanding their language skills, building lasting friendships, sampling new foods, and learning new customs and traditions. All these new experiences will lay the groundwork for future success. Marcel Proust once said, “The real voyage of discovery is not looking for new places, but in having new eyes.” Now, our students see the world with all new eyes, eyes open to the world around us and beyond.
