On August 5th, biology club students participated in the “High School Student Genetic Analysis Training” held at Nihon Pharmaceutical University.
24 high school students participated in practical training, where they extracted total RNA from cultured human airway epithelial cells, viewed it by electrophoresis and analyzed the expression of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) involved in pathogen recognition by the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) method.
The biology club has also been analyzing short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria by the PCR method, but this was the first time for us to handle cultured human airway epithelial cells. It was a meaningful practical experience, and we are very grateful for the guidance.
Students also enjoyed NIchiyakudai’s delicious and nutritious “medicine curry”for lunch!
